About

Recovery in Leeds is a collaboration between several recovery organisations and services in Leeds.

5 WAYS to Wellbeing @ The Recovery Academy

5 WAYS is the hub for anyone in recovery from issues with alcohol or drugs. Based in an old chapel off Burley Road it provides a range of groups and activities to help support people to remain abstinent. It is part of Forward Leeds – although it is open to anyone who feels they have experienced issues with alcohol or drugs.

Getting Clean

Getting Clean is a mutual aid organisation, providing peer-to-peer support to people in drug and alcohol recovery by giving them a purpose and opportunity to help other people and our planet.

The are a  not-for-profit company, making and selling soap. Getting Clean’s ‘Soap with Hope’ is made by recovering addicts in therapeutic soap-making workshops.

Besides making soap, they run regular volunteering projects, such as community clean ups, conservation work and residential repair jobs for vulnerable citizens.

Recovery Runners

Recovery Runners is a voluntary organisation. It was set up in 2021 by Dean Smith and Jamie Heselden as a community group for people dealing with addiction, mental health problems, illness and more.

They meet weekly and go for runs and walks of various distances at whatever pace suits the individuals. Running can help bust stress, aid emotional processing and improve sleep – all of which are linked to better mental health.

Dean and Jamie have won multiple community awards for their efforts.
